Butternut Squash Casserole is a dish made with butternut squash as the main ingredient, combined with milk, butter, sugar, eggs, and various other ingredients to create a baked delicacy. This dish has a creamy texture and a sweet, rich flavor, making it ideal as a main course for family dinners or as a highlight on holiday tables.

👉🏻Ingredients list⚠️

  • Butternut Squash: 1

  • Milk: 1 1/4 cups

  • Butter: 2 tsp + 2 1/2 tsp (2 1/2 tsp for topping)

  • Sugar: 1/2 cup

  • Eggs: 3

  • Flour: 1/2 cup

  • Brown Sugar: 1/2 cup (for topping)

  • Pecans: A handful

  • Vanilla Extract: 1 tsp (optional)

👉🏻✨DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut the butternut squash in half, remove the seeds and peel, then cut into two-centimeter cubes. Preheat the oven to 425°F.

  2. Boil a pot of water and, when it's almost boiling, add the cubed butternut squash. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes until a fork can easily pierce through. Drain the water and blend the butternut squash into a puree using a blender or spoon. You will need three cups of butternut squash puree; the rest can be frozen for later use.

  3. In a large bowl, mix the milk, two spoonfuls of flour, two and a half spoonfuls of melted butter, one spoonful of vanilla extract, and three beaten eggs into the butternut squash puree until well combined.

  4. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes.

  5. Meanwhile, prepare the topping: Mix two and a half spoonfuls of cold butter, half a cup of flour, and half a cup of brown sugar together until it forms small crumbs.

  6. Remove the baking dish from the oven, sprinkle the topping and pecans evenly over the baked butternut squash. Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F and bake for another 25 minutes until the topping is crispy.

👉🏻✨TIPS

  • The amount of sugar can be adjusted according to personal taste. Butternut squash is not very sweet, so you can even omit the sugar if using pumpkin instead.

  • If butternut squash is hard to find, you can substitute it with sweet potato or pumpkin, but adjust the amount of milk accordingly.

  • Pecans can be replaced with pecan halves, but preferably in their natural state.

  • When making the topping, do not overmix. The butter should be cold, and it's best to use cold hands to form small crumbs.

👉🏻✨BENEFITS

  • This dish is not only delicious but also adds a festive atmosphere to family gatherings. Its rich nutritional value and sweet flavor are loved by both adults and children.

👉🏻✨NUTRITIONAL

  • Butternut squash is high in vitamin A, which helps promote smooth skin and bone health. Additionally, this dish is rich in carbohydrates, protein, and fat, providing sufficient energy for the body. The addition of pecans also increases the intake of unsaturated fatty acids, helping to lower cholesterol and protect cardiovascular health.
