Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, mix the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
In another bowl, beat the egg, add milk and melted butter, and stir until well combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Gently fold in the blackberries until evenly distributed.
Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and smooth the surface.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the surface is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove and let cool slightly before cutting into pieces and serving.
